Kirkintilloch Circular Walk:

This walk on the outskirts of Kirkintilloch takes in some interesting paths as it passes along disbanded sections of the Kelvin
Valley Railway and round the outside of Kirkintilloch Golf Course.
It is an easy, circular four mile walk suitable for beginners and experienced walkers alike and starts, from the car park at Lidl’s off Campsie Road, in Kirkintilloch.
The walk follows the road exit from the car park and turns left into Campsie Road.
After crossing Goyle Bridge over the River Kelvin it turns right to the end of Kirkintilloch Industrial Estate and continues on the path to the left of the Riverside Childcare to join the cycle path for Milton of Campsie.
lt is worth pausing at this junction to view the River Kelvin from the bridge and spot ahead the flowing tributary of the Glazert Water.
Thewalk turns left onto the cycle path and follows the direction of the Glazert Water to the sectioned Stone Arches, an interesting construction which once carried the Kelvin Valley Railway over the Glazert.
Immediately after the Arches, the route leaves the cycle path on the left and climbs up onto the disbanded railway track where it passes by overgrown bushes and trees on both sides and spasmodic glimpses of the Campsie Hills to the right before dropping clown from the right onto Birdston Road. Take care on crossing the road to pass through a low wall entrance onto a narrow path created from the disbanded railway track. This path can be overgrown in parts and as it runs parallel to a vehicle track on the right it is possible to get through the wire fence at suitable positions and onto the vehicle track.
At the end of the track, the walk turns right before the metal gate and continues on a narrow path to pass by the electricity pylon.
It turns left on reaching a wider path or country lane which runs alongside and loops round Kirkintilloch Golf Course passing through a broken kissing gate with short railway sleepers.
After crossing a wooden bridge the path changes direction and rejoins another section of the railway track.
It still runs alongside the golf course and becomes narrower and more overgrown within the track width presumably for lack of usage by walkers. lt passes by on the left an overhead bridge structure and then before the next overhead bridge where its passage is blocked the walk ascends a set of steps and through a v-shaped opening gate to the very busy Kirkintilloch Road.
On turning left, take extra care on this road with no pavement and to avoid some dangerous bends ahead it is recommended that after a short distance the walk turns right into the drive for Hayston Golf Club.
It passes through the ‘stop’ sign, turns left and at the end of the main carpark, takes the narrow path to the left of the small building to pass round the power plant for the SP Energy Works, Strathkelvin House, and onto the driveway to Kirkintilloch Road.
Turning right the walk heads back to the start first of all passing through Kirkintilloch Golf Club Car Park on the left via the bollards,  then taking the driveway to the main road to pass by the Old Millpark Industrial Estate and finally turning left for the short walk along Glasgow Road back to the car park.
