Charles
Ingram, 1816 - 1885, Gunmaker,
son of John Ingram ( c1780 - c1836 ). Established the oldest gunmaking business in Glasgow in 1832. His
weapons enjoyed a high reputation throughout Scotland and beyond.
"Old Charley" as he was known, was also a highly respected marksman, a regular attender at rifle meetings and a frequent prizewinner. Was a sergeant in the 1st Lanarkshire Volunteer Rifles. Won several trophies for shooting. His
rifle held the world record for scoring 25 consecutive bulls-eyes at 800yds. He
held the post of armourer
with the West of Scotland Rifle Association for many years. |

Gunmaker, married to Maria Earl. Was
Armourer Sergeant in the Scots Greys stationed in Wiltshire. Started
gunmaking in Glasgow
in 1831 at 13 Eglinton Street.

In 1836 yet
another
famous Glasgow gunmaker founded his business,
and by 1855 Charles Ingram is recorded as being a cast steel barrel maker and his target rifles were highly regarded.
The firm of Ingram survived until 1945.
Charles A. Ingram, nephew of Charles Ingram, acquired the Glasgow, Scotland business of James Dalziel Dougall in 1894.
The London directories still carried the Ingram name in 1929 and there still was an Ingram firm as of 1946.
They moved to Renfield address in 1870 and in 1925 they were at 10 Waterloo St. and closed their business in 1946.

fine sidelock ejector by the famous Glasgow gunmaker Charles Ingram
featuring a highly figured walnut stock and action finely engraved
with rose and scrollwork with gold inlaid cocking indicators.
