KIPPEN CIRCULAR WALK - ROUTE DESCRIPTION:

This circular stroll from Kippen Cross is an ideal walk to undertake on a  short winter's day.
Most of this short walk of two and a half miles is on metalled surfaces. The only exception is half a mile of narrow gravelled path which has only a few muddy patches and can easily be walked in sturdy footwear.
Throughout the walk you will experience marvellous views across the Forth Valley to the Trossachs.
Kippen is one of the most attractive villages on the slopes of the Gargunnock Hills between Milngavie and Stirling.
lt’s about a 40 minute drive from Milngavie through attractive countryside where the views constantly remind you that you are still in the Lowlands but the Highlands are barely 10 miles away to the north.
Kippen is an interesting village and boasts two of the best pubs in this area - "The lnn at Kippen" and "The Cross Keys". They are both welcoming hostelries and cook excellent meals for hungry walkers.
The walk starts at Kippen Cross on Main Street. Cross the street to enter a road called Burnside which goes gently uphill. Stop along the way to feast on the splendid views across the Forth Valley to the mountains of the Trossachs, the distant Wallace Tower to the east and the Gargunnock Hills to the south.
After about 400 yards you arrive at a collection of houses the first being  Kennel Cottage, its name picked out in black metal lettering against the white gable wall facing you. Take the metalled narrow road on your right and ascend a steeper slope through Burnside wood to a sign  ‘Riggethill’.
Follow a track to the right downhill to the gate of a handsome White house.
There you turn right onto a narrow footpath that skirts the property which has extensive gardens.
The path bends left and on reaching a wood. it splits and you take a sharp turn left over a small wooden bridge across a ditch.
Here the path becomes rather muddy in places as you skirt a wood on your right.
After a further 300-400 yards you come onto a wide track which after a further 100 yards joins a metalled road.
Turn right downhill, through a hamlet built around Cauldhame onto the road between Kippen and Fintry.
Turn right and follow the pavement back into the Main Street of Kippen.
Near the bottom of Main Street you then have the enviable choice of stopping in at the Cross Keys or going around the corner to the left  to The Inn at Kippen.
