KILLEARN CIRCULAR WALK - ROUTE DESCRIPTION:

This walk is a pleasant circular walk from Killearn of five miles along sections of the Loch Katrine pipeline and the West Highland Way.
The walk is of three hours’ duration, but there are several cut off points if shorter walks are required back to Killearn.
It starts at the Station Road car park in Killearn and follows the main A875 road into the village to pass by on the right Killearn Kirk and the newly built Village Hall. As the road swings round to the left, take a short detour straight ahead to ponder the obelisk memorial and inscription erected in 1788 as a tribute to local scholar George Buchanan for his teaching of Mary Queen of Scots and James VI.
Returning to the A875, the walk turns right and passes attractive old style cottages before turning left into Albert Road ( unmarked ) immediately after the Spar grocer shop. It is a minor country road which opens out with fields on either side, it turns right before the farm track and at the top of the hill turns right again to a row of beautiful houses with lovely gardens.
On entering the wood, ignore the path on the right and pass through two gates onto a grass path with a large baronial style mansion on the right and the impressive Dumgoyne and Campsie Fells ahead.
It is the start of a popular walking section of the pipe track to Strathblane and provides a wonderful view of Loch Lomond and the Luss Hills.
The walk leaves the pipe track at the waterworks inspection shaft, passes through a gate which leads down to a farm and turns right at the ‘please drive slowly’ sign.
Take care on turning right at the end of this track onto the main A875 and at the second mini roundabout turn left into Drumbeg Loan.
It is worth taking time on this stretch of road to admire the individually styled houses,  including one with a thatched roof, followed by a panoramic view of Dumgoyne, the
Campsie Fells and Kilpatrick Hills.
At the road junction, the walk veers to the right and after a short distance leaves the road to pass through a gate on  the right and join the West Highland Way (WHW).
Points of interest are Oakwood Garden Centre on the right, the overhead road bridge as an optional route back to the start and the charity project refreshment table for WHW walkers. Take great care when crossing the busy A81.
The walk turns right at the Millhouse Cottage gate on Gartness Road, leaves the WHW and passes the Wishingwell farmhouse on the left.
It again crosses theA81 and continues on this minor road with a small lodge and farm cottage in Drumore.
lt passes an old curling pond on the left and the new Killearn Cemetery before a gradual uphill climb to the t-junction onto Station Road where looking ahead can be seen, once again, Killearn Kirk and the obelisk monument.
Turning left it passes Spittal Cottage at the corner of the t-junction and after a short distance uphill, the walk finishes returning to the car park.
